What
a great way to start the new year! The fifth graders in Mr.
Levin's and Ms. Sjostedt's classes are writing and illustrating
picture books! I went in to get some advice from them :-) I
know that all of their books will be great.

As a judge, I saw all of the bookmarks entered in the contest, and each student
had their own unique and wonderful way of communicating the theme: Adventures

School Book Fair
Wellesley, MA
March 20, 2007
I
met lots of students interested in reading, and several who
are also writing and illustrating their own books! Here is
a photo of the lovely bouquet they presented to me, beside
the drafting table where I paint. It is a beautiful inspiration
for the first day of spring!

Beethoven
School

April 23, 2007
I
was invited to the Beethoven School by the librarian, Mrs. Mourkakos.
I live in Roslindale too, so the students are my neighbors. I
see them in the grocery store and everywhere!
I talked to many, many classes and they were all interested and asked lots
of questions. It was fun! Mozart

Mrs.
Mourkakos invited me to another school where I met more neighbors! These
students have their own website for their school. You can see it here: The
Mozart School Website Yesterday, they all met the Mayor because they
were the best Boston Public School Recyclers! Congratulations!! Here's
an interesting fact about Mrs. Mourkakos--she also has a flower shop!
So here is a photo of a beautiful bouquet she gave me as a thank-you
for visiting her school:
 Newburyport
Literary Festival
Newburyport, MA
April 28, 2007
After
storytime, we made some beautiful art with tissue paper and water
just like I did for the illustrations of The Grand Old Tree. It
is messy and lots of fun. Did you know that if you wet most tissue
paper it 'leaks' it's color onto the paper behind it? Try it
sometime!
